Leader: Accept the words of the Lord and store up His commands within your heart, then you will find wisdom.
People: Lord, help us turn our ears to Your wisdom and apply the understanding of Your word to our hearts.
Leader: Call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, then you will know the fear of the Lord and be given knowledge of God.
People: We will look for wisdom as silver and search for it like a hidden treasure.
Leader: For the Lord gives wisdom to those who seek; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding. He holds success in store for the upright and is a shield to those whose walk is blameless.
People: He guards the path of the just and watches over the way of His faithful ones.
Leader: Then you will understand what is right and just and fair in the eyes of God.
All: Let our hearts become wise in the Lord and our minds delight in His knowledge that we may walk in the way of goodness and keep to the paths of righteousness.
Hymn: We Praise You, O God, Our Redeemer
We praise You, O God, our Redeemer, Creator,
In grateful devotion our tribute we bring.
We lay it before You, we kneel and adore You,
We bless Your holy name, glad praises we sing.
We worship You, God of our fathers, we bless You;
through life’s storm and tempest our Guide You have been.
When perils o’er take us, You will not forsake us,
And with Your help, O Lord, our battles we win.
With voices united our praises we offer,
And gladly our songs of thanksgiving we raise.
With You, Lord, beside us, Your strong arm will guide us.
To You, our great Redeemer, forever be praise.

Holy God, we come together as Your people searching for sacred space, longing to be cherished, craving real communion with You. In this hour of worship let thankfulness sink deep and joy spring up. We lift our hearts and souls and minds to the God of our creation, for we are wholly Yours now and forever. Amen.

Anthem: I Am Bound for the Kingdom
Sanctuary Choir
Sing the wondrous love of Jesus,
Sing His mercy and His grace;
In the mansions bright and blessed
He’ll prepare for us a place.
I am bound for the kingdom,
Will you go to glory with me?
Hallelujah, praise the Lord!
While we walk the pilgrim pathway
Clouds will overspread the sky,
But when traveling days are over,
Not a shadow, not a sigh.
Let us then be true and faithful,
Trusting, serving every day;
Just one glimpse of Him in glory
Will the toils of life repay.
Onward to the prize before us!
Soon His beauty we’ll behold;
Soon the pearly gates will open,
We shall tread the streets of gold.

Scripture Reading
I Kings 3:5-12a NIV
Rev. Deborah Upton
At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon during the night in a dream, and God said, “Ask for whatever you want Me to give you.” Solomon answered, “You have shown great kindness to Your servant, my father David, because he was faithful to You and righteous and upright in heart. You have continued this great kindness to him and have given him a son to sit on his throne this very day. “Now, Lord my God, You have made Your servant king in place of my father David. But I am only a little child and do not know how to carry out my duties. Your servant is here among the people You have chosen, a great people, too numerous to count or number. So give Your servant a discerning heart to govern Your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of Yours?” The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for this. So God said to him, “Since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have asked for the death of your enemies but for discernment in administering justice, I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be.
Hymn: Ask Ye What Great Thing I Know
Verse 1
Ask ye what great thing I know
That delights and stirs me so
What the high reward I win
Whose the name I glory in
Jesus Christ, the crucified
Verse 2
What is faith’s foundation strong
What awakes my lips to song
He who bore my sinful load
Purchased for me peace with God
Jesus Christ, the crucified
Verse 3
Who is life in life to me
Who the death of death will be
Who will place me on His right
With the countless hosts of light
Jesus Christ, the crucified
Verse 4
This is that great thing I know
This delights and stirs me so
Faith in Him who died to save
Him who triumphed o’er the grave
Jesus Christ, the crucified

Hymn of Response: He Leadeth Me
Verse 1
He leadeth me! O blessed thought
O words with heavenly comfort fraught
Whate’er I do, where’er I be
Still ’tis God’s hand that leadeth me
Chorus
He leadeth me, He leadeth me
By His own hand He leadeth me
His faithful follower I would be
For by His hand He leadeth me
Verse 2
Lord, I would clasp Thy hand in mine
Nor ever murmur nor repine
Content, whatever lot I see
Since ’tis Thy hand that leadeth me
Chorus
He leadeth me, He leadeth me
By His own hand He leadeth me
His faithful follower I would be
For by His hand He leadeth me
Verse 3
And when my task on earth is done
When, by Thy grace, the victory’s won
E’en death’s cold wave I will not flee
Since God through Jordan leadeth me
Chorus
He leadeth me, He leadeth me
By His own hand He leadeth me
His faithful follower I would be
For by His hand He leadeth me
