Interim Care Pastor

Good day. I am known at Bon Air Baptist Church as “Trouble!” My response to these charges is simply, “Into each life some trouble must fall!” I am Sheryl Joe, Interim Care Pastor, lover of God’s people, and an encourager to stay the course, no matter the difficulty. I consider myself tremendously blessed to be a member of the Bon Air Baptist Church family.
I walk in this title due to my 23 years of ministry service. I was ordained as a reverend in 2007 at my church in Queens Village, New York, Dabar Bethlehem Cathedral, under the leadership of Bishop H. Curtis Douglas.
There, I was an Elder, in charge of Congregational Care, where teams of leaders saw that the members were cared for, prayed over, and in relationship with each other; Events Team where I was responsible for planning church trips; Health Team where I worked with a team of nurses in contact with the sick and shut-in; Heart of Compassion, a neighborhood outreach, soup kitchen, groceries, and clothing closet, all given out to anyone in need; Seniors Care Ministry where I reached out to seniors unable to attend church.
My most memorable accomplishments include becoming an ordained reverend after growing up in a church where women were not allowed to even be at the pulpit. I have been ordained three times having hands laid on me with blessed oil. And, all my travel opportunities; South Africa in 1997, Australia in 2008, England in 2012, and Israel in 2014.
I graduated from Fashion Industries High School, in NYC; attended Fashion Institute of Technology, NYC; attended NYACK College, NY for one year, attended Bethel Bible Institute, NY; and, attended the John Leland Center for Theological Studies. I attended all of these schools at night, while working in the day, which is probably why I never earned a degree. I have come to Bon Air Baptist fully-trained and qualified for ministry! I often say my degrees are from the Holy Ghost. Put me anywhere in the church to work, and I can do it with excellence!
I have a son and a daughter, and a cat named Henry. My son has five children and one granddaughter, and my daughter is newly married. My daughter’s marriage brought me to Bon Air Baptist Church through an historic tour of Bon Air, which originated in the BABC parking lot. Upon return, I asked about worship services. I attended, and am still here! Reach out to me anytime.
I say to you precious people of God, from Luke 12:48 – “To whom much is given, much will be required.”
