Communications Director

Hello, and welcome to Bon Air Baptist Church! I joined our team as the Communications Director in 2021. Within my first year, I felt a calling from God that this was where I needed to be and made the decision to convert from Catholicism to the Baptist faith. I was re-baptized, and re-born, by Katherine Phillips in the James River and became a Bon Air Baptist Church member, celebrating one of the most incredible days of my life!
Throughout my professional career, I’ve held many creative leadership positions providing strategic solutions to local, national, and international clientele. I’ve owned and operated two marketing-communications firms, RoKa, Inc., and Brand Facilitators, for over ten years each achieving awards of excellence, medals, and awards of merit for creative design and advertising solutions.
Some of my professional memories include:
Awarded the “Best Branding Campaign” at the Comms-Live European Conference in Monte Carlo, Monaco for the “No Borders. No Barriers. No Limits.” advertising campaign for Viatel Telecommunications with a write-up in Fortune Magazine.
Concepted, designed and art directed the award-winning “Catholic School is Cool” advertising campaign and TV commercials for the Catholic Diocese of Richmond’s Catholic Education Department where I managed the communications, admissions, and development teams for 29 Catholic schools in three vicariates throughout Virginia.
Designed and produced the Old Dominion Electric Cooperative “coffee table” quality Annual Report for 16 consecutive years.
I once drove a 28-foot Rider Truck from Wilmington DE, to Chicago IL to pick up 150,000 football-shaped sales kits from a printer and delivered them to the OkiData warehouse in Trenton, NJ in under 36 hours because I refused to miss a deadline and disappoint a client. (The printer was going to miss our delivery deadline.) Did I mention how I accidentally “peeled off” the top corner of the truck while getting it stuck under the hotel awning?
I have two amazing adult children, Adreanna and John who are my joy in life, and my chihuahua - mix rescue pup Scruffy.
Bon Air Baptist Church is the place to belong and the place to become, and we would love for you to be part of our family! Feel free to reach out to me anytime at karen.demarino (at) bonairbaptist.org
