The race is on! Follow the goals to help win the World Hunger race!
Create a menu for you or your family that costs $5.50 per person for the whole day.
Poverty is a leading cause of world hunger. Absolute poverty is defined as living on $1.90 a day but living on less than $3.20 per day reflects poverty lines in lower-middle-income countries while $5.50 a day reflects standards in upper-middle-income countries. Poverty leads to hunger, malnutrition (acute or chronic), and food insecurity.

Food insecurity is a major problem—even in developed countries like ours. A place is generally considered a food desert where access to affordable, healthy, food options (ex. fresh fruits and veggies) is limited or nonexistent because grocery stores are too far away.
Food support ministries like food pantries and food banks are a major part of ending world hunger.

Virginia’s 10.6% food insecurity rate means that over 893,000 people may not know where their next meal will come from on any given day. With the average cost of a meal in Virginia being $3.07, Feeding America's “Map the Meal Gap” concluded that an additional $468,094,000 would be needed to meet the state’s food needs.
