“For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.”

Carol: Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus
to STUTTGART tune
Come, Thou long-expected Jesus,
born to set Thy people free;
from our fears and sins release us;
let us find our rest in Thee.
Israel's strength and consolation,
hope of all the earth Thou art;
dear desire of every nation,
joy of every longing heart.
Born Thy people to deliver,
born a child and yet a King,
born to reign in us forever,
now Thy gracious kingdom bring.
By Thine own eternal Spirit
rule in all our hearts alone;
by Thine all sufficient merit,
raise us to Thy glorious throne.

Anthem: Wonderful Name
Mary was the first to hear it,
name that came from heaven above;
name that raises souls from darkness,
this the only name worth singing of.
Wonderful name, Jesus!
Name angels sang the night all heaven rang;
Wonderful name, Jesus!
Heaven touched His name with glory,
precious name of Jesus, our King;
in God’s Word is told the story,
of this wondrous name the angels sing!

Advent Wreath Lighting/Reading
The Hollister/Robinson Family
Leader: This candle of HOPE is symbolic of the long years of waiting and hoping. Every year we light candles as we prepare for the coming of Christ. More and more candles, more and more light, as we watch and wait in HOPE for Jesus, the Light of the World.
People: God of Promise, come into our darkness. Renew Your HOPE in us, for You alone bring life out of death.
Leader: We can receive God’s promise of HOPE from Psalm 33: “The eyes of the Lord are on those who fear Him, on those whose HOPE is in His unfailing love, to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine.”
People: We wait in HOPE for the Lord; He is our Help and our Shield. In Him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in His holy name. May Your unfailing love rest upon us, O Lord, even as we put our HOPE in You.
Anthem: Mary, Did You Know?
Blaine Dunnavant, soloist
Mary, did you know that your baby Boy
will one day walk on water?
Mary, did you know that your baby Boy
will save our sons and daughters?
Did you know that your baby Boy
has come to make you new?
This Child that you’ve delivered
will soon deliver you.
Mary, did you know that your baby Boy
will give sight to a blind man?
Mary, did you know that your baby Boy
will calm a storm with His hand?
Did you know that your baby Boy
has walked where angels trod?
And when you kiss your little baby,
you’ve kissed the face of God.
Oh, Mary, did you know?
The blind will see, the deaf will hear,
the dead will live again.
The lame will leap, the dumb will speak
the praises of the Lamb!
Mary, did you know that your baby Boy
is Lord of all creation?
Mary, did you know that your baby Boy
would one day rule the nations?
Did you know that your baby Boy
is heaven's perfect Lamb?
And this sleeping Child you're holding
is the great I AM, the great I AM!

Hymn: Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence
St. 1,2 only
Let all mortal flesh keep silence
And with fear and trembling stand
Ponder nothing earthly-minded
For with blessing in His hand
Christ our God to earth descendeth
Our full homage to demand
King of kings, yet born of Mary
As of old on earth He stood
Lord of lords, in human vesture
In the body and the blood
He will give to all the faithful
His own self for heavenly food
Rank on rank the host of heaven
Spreads its vanguard on the way
As the Light of light descendeth
From the realms of endless day
That the powers of hell may vanish
As the darkness clears away
At his feet the six-winged seraph,
Cherubim, with sleepless eye,
Veil their faces to the Presence,
As with ceaseless voice they cry
“Alleluia! Alleluia!
Alleluia! Lord Most High!”

Hymn: He Is Born
St. 1,3 only
He is born the divine Christ Child
Play the oboe and bagpipes merrily
He is born the divine Christ Child
Sing we all of the Savior mild
Through long ages of the past
Prophets have foretold His coming
Through long ages of the past
Now the time has come at last
O how lovely O how pure
Is this perfect Child of heaven
O how lovely O how pure
Gracious gift to human kind
Jesus Lord of all the world
Coming as a Child among us
Jesus Lord of all the world
Grant to us Thy heavenly peace

Advent Hymn of Response: Thou Didst Leave Thy Throne
Verse 1
Thou didst leave Thy throne
And Thy kingly crown
When Thou camest to earth for me
But in Bethlehem’s home
There was found no room
For Thy holy nativity
Chorus 1
O come to my heart, Lord Jesus
There is room in my heart
For Thee
Verse 2
Heaven’s arches rang
When the angels sang
Proclaiming Thy royal degree
But in lowly birth
Thou didst come to earth
And in great humility
Chorus 1
O come to my heart, Lord Jesus
There is room in my heart
For Thee
Verse 3
The foxes found rest
And the birds their nest
In the shade of the forest tree
But Thy couch was the sod
O Thou Son of God
In the desert of Galilee
Chorus 1
O come to my heart, Lord Jesus
There is room in my heart
For Thee
Verse 4
Thou camest O Lord
With the living Word
That should set Thy people free
But with mocking scorn
And with crown of thorn
They bore Thee to Calvary
Chorus 1
O come to my heart, Lord Jesus
There is room in my heart
For Thee
Verse 5
When the heavens shall ring
And the angels sing
At Thy coming to victory
Let Thy voice call me home
Saying “Yet there is room
There is room at My side for thee.”
Chorus 2
My heart shall rejoice, Lord Jesus
When Thou comest
And callest for me

Sermon Scripture
Scripture: Luke 3:15-17 NIV
The people were waiting expectantly and were all wondering in their hearts if John might possibly be the Messiah. John answered them all, “I baptize you with water. But One who is more powerful than I will come, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fork is in His hand to clear His threshing floor and to gather the wheat into His barn, but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”
Each time we meet with God, whether privately or corporately, at the end of that time God sends us or COMMISSIONS us to go “into the world” and share His love.
"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,"
Matthew 28:19 NIV
