Brad

Brad Dalton | Buford Road Campus | 14-year member

Positions Past/Present:

  • Current: Deacon, Church Endowment Chairman
  •  Past: Deacon Chairman

Calling/Interest to Serve on Church Council:

My love for Bon Air Baptist and growing God’s Kingdom through Bon Air Baptist is the foundation for my interest to serve on the Church Council. I believe my executive experience and dedication to support the church leadership is why I’ve been asked to serve. I believe God has given me the talents and spiritual maturity to provide strategic direction and support for our church.

Opportunities for BABC:

Structural opportunities to manage our virtual ministries which are the new norm. Be more supportive of our pastors and create programs to help them manage through Covid. Our church members are being impacted by so much division in our country.

Maria

Maria Lynn | Buford Road Campus | 20-year member

Positions Past/Present:

  • Current: Serves on the Tech Team for  Worship and special events; Wednesday Supper Team; Preschool Sunday School substitute. Serves on the BGAV Mission Council. Coordinates ministry on the Standing Rock Reservation.
  • Past: Adult Wednesday night discipleship class leader. Children’s discipleship teacher and iKIDS Curriculum writer. Mission project volunteer and led training for youth mission teams. Attended and supported the set-up of all three Multi-Site campuses. Women’s retreat speaker and breakout session leader and WMU speaker.

Calling/Interest to Serve on Church Council:

I’m passionate about the mission of the church and how we engage people of all ages in that mission. As a vocational minister, I enjoy thinking strategically about the work of the church while listening for the Spirit’s leadership. Having served on, trained, and led staff, faculty, mission, ministry, associational, and vision teams, I believe God has used my gifts of teaching and administration as an instrument for healing, stability, and discernment.

Opportunities for BABC:

There is a great opportunity to connect people with God and others by intentionally creating opportunities for everyone to belong and become like Christ in the Bon Air community. The post-quarantine church will need us to think about how we: engage multiple generations and cultural backgrounds in leadership and service, use technology to expand our reach, and engage in authentic worship and missional discipleship. I’d love to be a part of the excitement.

Buddy

Buddy Gardner | Buford Road Campus | 63-year member

Positions Past/Present:

  • Current: N/A
  • Past: Sunday school teacher, Sunday school director, co-coordinator for discipleship ministries, MCC, Trustee, Pastor Search Team (3 times, chairman 2 times), Chairman of Transition Team, Discipleship Minister search team, Joy of Belonging facilitator, Chairman of the Endowment Team, Preschool committee member.

Calling/Interest to Serve on Church Council:

My experience has allowed me to see almost all areas of church life. COVID has given me time to think and pray about my future. I have been a practicing dentist for over 47 years but have decided to retire at the end of 2021. I think God is preparing me for the next challenge, and I believe this opportunity may be that challenge. My time will open up and give me the opportunity to serve Him in a way I have not been able to in the past. Bon Air Baptist has been a big part of my life, and I want our church to be the best it can be in reaching people for the Lord.

Opportunities for BABC:

I believe we have done a great job of reaching people for the Lord throughout our history. However, I think church life is changing, and we as a church need to recognize, as best we can, how changes will affect our congregation, and how we reach people to bring them into the Kingdom.

Lee

Edward Lee Coble | Buford Road Campus | 29-year member

Positions Past/Present:

  • Current: N/A
  • Past: Deacon Chair Search Team, Organizer/Director BABC Deacon
    Golf Committee

Calling/Interest to Serve on Church Council:

I am interested in continuing to be a voice for BABC’s mission in all that we do as leaders and members.

Opportunities for BABC:

Being intentionally inclusive at BABC, where all God’s children can belong. Meet people where they are. More diversity, more outreach. We need to step outside our comfort zone. With COVID, we now have a larger presence online - we are reaching people we have not reached before - we need more outreach. Possibly a community or joint revival.

Positions Past/Present:

  • Current: Deacon, Recreation Team Leader, Mission Pastor Search Team
  • Past: Royal Ambassadors Director and Leader; Student Ministry Sunday School leader; Sunday Night Live (Student Ministry) Leader; Upward Basketball Coach; Recreation Director Search Team and Young Adult; Glocal Pastor Search Team; Next Step Team; Facilitator and Coach, Men’s Softball Team; Church Bus Driver; Leader, Youth Mission Trip to South Carolina; Team Member, Mission Trips to Toronto and Ghana.

Calling/Interest to Serve on Church Council:

I am interested in seeing how the decision-making process for the Church works.
I feel a calling to help shape the path of Bon Air moving forward.

Opportunities for BABC:

I believe that the pandemic has opened the door for new and exciting avenues of caring
outreach and service. I am hoping to be part of the team that will engage and bring younger families to the church in person and virtually. It is my desire to see Bon Air Baptist continue to grow outwardly as we welcome seekers; and grow inwardly as we deepen our own commitment to the gospel.

Bobby

Bobby Moore | Buford Road Campus | 18-year member

Positions Past/Present:

  • Current: Discipleship Ministry, Teacher for Salt and Light Bible study class
  • Past: Teacher and leader of Adult Singles Ministry

Calling/Interest to Serve on Church Council:

It is important for the Church to be at the forefront, and not silent, on Christianity in a society that is losing its way. I want to be a part of defining that role.

Opportunities for BABC:

I, like many Christians, am concerned about the impact that our society is having, and will have, on the Church. The challenges which lie within will not, of their own accord, simply go away. They must be addressed proactively, and with the same vigor as was required of the Early Church. It seems to me that those of us who feel strongly in these areas, should stand up and be counted. I want to be part of that at BABC. The bottom line is, the Church needs to make even more of a difference in a positive way.

Cecil

Cecil Newton | Buford Road Campus | 14-year member

Positions Past/Present:

  • Current: Deacon, Transportation Committee member, Communion Committee member, Virginia Baptist Disaster Response Team member
  • Past: Meals Ministry, Mentoring Ministry for Huguenot High School, Facility Issues Team, Prison Ministry volunteer (Christmas cards), assisted with ESL students in summer.

Calling/Interest to Serve on Church Council:

I believe a good, successful church experience is a major contributing factor in the process of members becoming what God wants them to be, especially the young families and youth. I believe God wanted me to allow my name to be submitted to show my willingness to participate in this effort as He leads.

Opportunities for BABC:

Statistics show that interest in church and religion, in general, has been at an accelerated decline as a result of the pandemic. Even BABC, with its resources and talented members, has not been totally immune. The actions that BABC takes to reach the lost and create the desire of young families and youth to be part of the Church are important to our future.

Positions Past/Present:

  • Current: Sunday School Teacher, Conference Call Bible Study during Covid, Co-President of PrimeTimers, Prison Ministry, Virginia State Coordinator of the National Day of Prayer Task Force
  •  Past: Former Pastor, BABC Prayer Team, Speaker in Prison Ministry

Calling/Interest to Serve on Church Council:

I believe God has given me the gift of administration, and I want to encourage the BABC Council Team. My sense of calling is to encourage Bon Air to grow and make disciples.

Opportunities for BABC:

We should do more missions, have more mission trips, and help people grow in Christ. We need to reach the children. We need the Church family to understand what it means to be a prayer warrior.

Walt

Walt Prillaman | Buford Road Campus | 25-year member

Positions Past/Present:

  • Current: Prison Ministry volunteer
  • Past: Ministry Coordination Council (MCC) Member, Deacon Chairman, Deacon Vice-Chairman, Habitat for Humanity

Calling/Interest to Serve on Church Council:

I do have a sense of calling about becoming a Church Council Member. It has been some time since I have served on a committee or team, and I feel I am refreshed to commit to the position. I have fully retired, and I feel I have the energy and capacity to be a good standing committee person.

Opportunities for BABC:

Attracting younger leadership for the future. Transformational messaging. Support for ministry. The need to maintain personal touch.

Eddie

Eddie Gibson, Buford Road Campus, 11-year member

Positions Past/Present:

  • Current: Sanctuary Choir, Buildings & Grounds Team Chair
  • Past: Emerging Leaders, Personnel Team, Church Governance Team

Calling/Interest to Serve on Church Council:

I became interested in the governance of the church through a Bible study that my former Sunday School teacher, Steve Hutcherson, did. I then joined the Governance Study team that helped form the Church Council. Through these activities, I became greatly interested in how the church runs and the inner workings of the church. I feel called to this role to help continue to bridge the gap between the traditions we have at BABC and engage younger people and families to continue our legacy. I have 4 kids that have been very active in church activities, so I want to be sure our church continues to thrive into the future.

Opportunities for BABC:

Successfully combining in-person and online services for members who are unable to attend in-person; successfully appealing to the younger demographic; continuing to increase the diversity of the congregation; successfully recovering from the effects of the COVID shutdown.
