Dave Fairchild for web 300 x 300

Dave Fairchild - Buford Road Campus

Dave Fairchild | Buford Road Campus | 19-Year Member

Positions Past/Present:

  • Stewardship Team Chair (current)
  • Greeter - The Gathering
  • Communion Team
  • Church Council (past)

Calling/Interest to Serve on Church Council:

BABC needs to recalibrate our long term plan, including rethinking our James River Campus strategy, reallocating resources to our contemporary services as an entry point for new young families and young seekers, and rethinking how we best serve our community and attract young families with a full day preschool.

Opportunities for BABC:

At our Buford Road campus our preschool has been an important part of providing caring Christian mentoring for many years in our community. We have the opportunity to leverage our great preschool reputation and fill the growing need of dual working parent families that require full day preschool by extending our program to full day. Additionally, our online presence has been enhanced through the leadership of Randy Lynn and our audio visual staff and volunteers. As we look forward to growing our voice for the Lord, our online program has the potential to become top tier.

Don Grivetti for web 300 x 300

Don Grivetti - Buford Road Campus

Don Grivetti | Buford Road Campus | 11-Year Member

Positions Past/Present:

  • Sunday School Teacher
  • Small Group Leader

Calling/Interest to Serve on Church Council:

I feel it is time for me to do what God is leading me to do as a church council member. God is offering me the opportunity to serve our church by giving of my time for this position and the needs of our church family as we navigate through the change in church leadership and the future of BABC.

Opportunities for BABC:

Some of my main goals are to grow the youth and young adults through college-age focus and mentoring programs. We want to inspire this generation and make it fun to come to church and become part of a community worshiping God! And to engage the surrounding communities through events and workshops to express what BABC has to offer. I look forward to being a representative for all our church families.

Susan

Susan Hampton - Buford Road Campus

Susan Hampton | Buford Road Campus | 7-Year Member

Positions Past/Present:

  • Sanctuary Choir Member
  • Bereavement & Lord's Supper Teams
  • Meals Ministry Member
  • Office Volunteer
  • Library Lead (past)
  • Women's Conference & Women's Tea Teams (past)

Calling/Interest to Serve on Church Council:

I believe that this is a crucial time in our church life as we transition to a new pastor and new programs. Covid has reduced attendance in many areas of church life and it's important that we bring those members back and get them re-involved in the life of the church.

Opportunities for BABC:

The demographics in communities around us are changing with younger families and children moving in.  There is a need to find ways to utilize our tremendous facilities and programs to introduce them to BABC.

Alison for web 300 x 300

Alison Keller - Buford Road Campus

Alison Keller | Buford Road Campus | 26-Year Member

Positions Past/Present:

  • Bereavement Team Coordinator
  • Discovery Class Teacher
  • Worship Enhancement Team Co-Lead
  • 70th Anniversary co-chair
  • Bathroom/Parlor Renovation Team (past)

Calling/Interest to Serve on Church Council:

I have had held positions in other organizations and think my skills may be helpful in charting the path as we fulfill the commission of serving Jesus.

Opportunities for BABC:

The immediate priority is to identify a Lead Pastor and conduct a strategic planning process to create accountability measures for success, followed by defining planning processes & systems that allow for transparency and sustainability. Lastly, is the need to reestablish the value of the BABC community and involvement, or “Belonging and Becoming”, in the post-COVID environment.

Church Council Pics (3)

Amanda Krug - Buford Road Campus

Amanda Krug | Buford Road Campus | 5-Year Member

Positions Past/Present:

  • Small Group Leader
  • Deacon
  • Communion Cleanup Team
  • MCC Liaison (past)
  • Discipleship Layleader (past)
  • Missionary (past)

Calling/Interest to Serve on Church Council:

Our church is currently going through, not only change in the senior pastor, but also change in how to "do church" in a post-pandemic environment. This is happening in the midst of spoken and unspoken disunity amongst others in and out of the Church (bigger Church) culture, I know God wants BABC not just to continue to survive this time, nor going back to old ways, but to thrive and move forward. I feel called to serve the Lord and BABC in this way so that, perhaps, the Lord could use whatever experiences and wisdom I might have (in my past and present ministry and work roles) to work with a team that seeks the Lord first and asks for direction and wisdom on how to undergird and guide the church forward.

Opportunities for BABC:

I feel BABC has some great opportunities to join the Lord’s work in: engaging those who don’t have a strong connection to our church family anymore, as well as those who are re- examining their faith; continuing the conversations about mental health; continuing to empower servant leadership; supporting the current and exciting new focused ways to share the hope of Christ with those locally and globally.

Glen

Glen Lutz - Buford Road Campus

Glen Lutz | Buford Road Campus | 17-Year Member

Positions Past/Present:

  • Sunday School Teacher w/ continuing conference call capabilities
  • PrimeTimers co-president
  • Prison Ministry Volunteer
  • Virginia State Coordinator of the National Day of Prayer Task Force since 2004
  • Full time pastor of (4) Virginia Churches (past)
  • BABC Prayer Team (past)
  • Speaker for Prison and ESL Ministries (past)

Calling/Interest to Serve on Church Council:

I believe God has given me the gifts of teaching and administration, and I want to encourage the BABC Council Team. My sense of calling is to encourage Bon Air to grow and make disciples.

Opportunities for BABC:

Since we are in a transition period, we need to clarify Bon Air's direction and the type of future pastor we now need. We have many decisions to make. I have been serving as an Intentional Interim Pastor since 2004 in 5 Virginia Baptist Churches and have worked with a Transition Team in each church.

Cecil

Cecil Newton - Buford Road Campus

Cecil Newton | Buford Road Campus | 15-Year Member

Positions Past/Present:

  • Greeter Team Member
  • Transporation Team Member
  • Communion Team Member
  • Virginia Baptist Disaster Response Team Member
  • Deacon (past)
  • Meals Ministry (past)
  • HHS Mentoring Ministry (past)
  • Facility Team (past)
  • Prison Ministry Card Writer (past)
  • ESL assitant during Summer (past)

Calling/Interest to Serve on Church Council:

I believe a good, successful church experience is a major contributing factor in the process of members becoming what God wants them to be, especially the young families and youth. I believe God wanted me to allow my name to be submitted to show my willingness to participate in this effort as He leads.

Opportunities for BABC:

Statistics show that interest in church and religion in general have been at an accelerated decline as a result of the pandemic and other factors. Even BABC, with its resources and talented members, has not been totally immune.

  • Usher

Calling/Interest to Serve on Church Council:

I do have a sense of calling about becoming a Church Council Member. It has been some time since I have served on a committee or team, and I feel I am refreshed to commit to the position. I have fully retired, and I feel I have energy and capacity to be a good standing committee person.

Opportunities for BABC:

Attracting younger leadership for the future. Transformational messaging. Support for ministry. Need to maintain personal touch.
